Furniture Removal in Ten Mile Area, Meridian

Ten Mile is one of Meridian's newer corners, and that shows up in what gets set out for pickup. Subdivisions like Lochsa Falls, Paramount, Bridgetower, Tuscany and Settlers Bridge were mostly built from the 1990s into the 2020s, which means most of the furniture coming out of them is newer too. It's less about worn-out antiques and more about people upgrading, downsizing a room, or clearing out a garage that's been used for storage instead of cars.

That newer housing stock changes the job in small but real ways, from what's actually worth keeping to how a crew gets a piece out the door.

What Usually Comes Out of a Ten Mile Home

In the master-planned neighborhoods around Spurwing, The Oaks North and Bridgetower, a lot of what gets removed is still in decent shape. Think sectionals swapped out for a different style, kids' bedroom sets outgrown, a home office setup nobody uses anymore, or patio furniture that didn't survive a few seasons outside. Around Old Town Meridian, where the homes run older and smaller, you'll see more of the heavier, dated pieces — solid wood dressers, hutches, and furniture that's been in a garage or basement for years.

Not everything should head straight to the landfill. A solid piece of real wood furniture, even if it's out of style, is usually worth donating rather than tossing. Upholstered furniture in good condition can go the same route. Mattresses, box springs, and anything with foam or fabric that's worn out or damaged is better off being recycled or disposed of properly than passed along.

A few quick things worth checking before you decide what goes where:

  • Solid wood furniture in working condition — usually donatable, even if dated
  • Mattresses and box springs — accepted for disposal, not for donation if stained or damaged
  • Metal furniture frames (bed frames, patio sets) — can be pulled out for scrap metal recycling
  • Veneer or particleboard furniture that's swelled or delaminated — generally landfill-bound
  • Anything with Freon (a mini-fridge, not furniture itself) — handled separately and carries its own fee

Where It Goes Once It Leaves Your Driveway

Ten Mile falls in Ada County, and most furniture removal jobs here end up at one of two places. The Ada County Landfill at Hidden Hollow, up in the north Boise foothills off Seamans Gulch Rd, takes general trash, construction and demolition debris, yard waste, mattresses, scrap metal, clean wood, and e-waste. Tires and Freon-containing appliances are accepted but carry a disposal fee. Hazardous waste and anything from outside the county are turned away.

A lot of Ten Mile residents and crews also use the Meridian Transfer Station on W Franklin Rd, run by Republic. It's closer for most of Ten Mile and accepts large metal items and cardboard at no charge, which is handy when a load includes a metal bed frame or a flattened box or two. It runs on posted hours, so it's worth checking those before counting on a same-day drop-off.

Knowing where a load is headed before a crew shows up is what makes sorting fast. Metal gets separated for the free drop at the transfer station, mattresses get set aside since they're accepted but handled on their own, and anything treated or painted wood gets kept out of the piles meant for clean wood recycling, since that's one of the things the landfill restricts from diversion.

Getting Ready in Ten Mile's Newer Neighborhoods

Most of the newer subdivisions out here — Paramount, Bridgetower, Lochsa Falls — come with an HOA and CC&Rs, which is pretty standard for new construction in Meridian. That usually isn't a problem for a furniture pickup, but it's worth a quick check if your community has any rules about trucks parking on the street or blocking a shared drive, especially in a tighter cul-de-sac.

Three-car garages are common out here, and a lot of furniture ends up staged there before it's hauled off. If that's the case, clear a path to the garage door and make sure nothing's blocking it from opening fully. In the older pockets near Old Town Meridian, driveways and streets tend to be narrower, so it helps to have a clear spot picked out ahead of time rather than figuring it out when the truck arrives.

A couple of things that trip people up: putting a dumpster or container in the street without checking first — Meridian's public streets belong to ACHD, and a container sitting in the roadway or on the shoulder needs a right-of-way permit — and assuming a piece will fit through a doorway or down a stairwell without measuring first. Both are easy to avoid with a quick look before the day of the job.

Whether it's a single couch coming out of a Ten Mile garage or a full house of furniture being cleared out, knowing what's worth keeping, where the rest is headed, and what your driveway or HOA expects ahead of time makes the whole job go smoother.
